Jason graduated from Cambridge University in 1992 with an MA in History (partly explaining his unhealthy fascination with all things Albion), and started his career bang in the middle of a recession. He joined the graduate training programme at now defunct agency DMB&B (later merged with Leo Burnett) and trained on Proctor and Gamble, Fiat and Allied Domecq.
He then joined BMP DDB in 1994 where he worked on Volkswagen, Vodafone and PepsiCo, and played an extremely minor role in the team that developed the Gary Lineker Walkers Crisps campaign.
He co-founded interactive marketing agency BMP interAction in 1996 – an early entrant into interactive marketing. Jason led the development of internet marketing strategies for Sony, Volkswagen, and Reuters, winning industry awards from New Media Age, Media Week and D&AD. In 1998 he was a Business Age and Media Week ‘face to watch’. But remember at this time you just had to be under 30 and remotely involved with anything web-like to pick up these accolades!
He went on to create Tribal DDB in 2000 where he was the Chief Operating Officer and was responsible for the merger of nine interactive marketing businesses across Europe. Just before he left Tribal DDB, Adweek’s 2002 global review of interactive networks showed it moving from 44th to 6th largest interactive marketing agency worldwide and that year it was one the most awarded new media agencies at Cannes.
The logical thing to do next was merge Tribal DDB and DDB and create a unique integrated agency network as capable in new media as it was in advertising. But DDB were having none of it so Jason left and in October 2002 he launched Albion.
From day one Jason has written all things digital and interactive into Albion’s culture and the way it works. Over 6 years Jason and Albion has been lucky to be involved with building some of the world’s famous digital businesses. Jason has worked across all of the agency’s Clients including eBay, Innocent and BlackBerry and was very closely involved in the early creation of Skype’s brand and marketing.
