At Albion we have a monthly planners’ breakfast. Everything month we get together at a different venue to eat fried foods and discuss whatever seems useful, fun or urgent.
Today we went to E.Pellici in Bethnal Green. Fantastic example of unspoiled classic caff design. Great breakfasts, not poncy, just right. And charmingly haphazard but enthusiastic and friendly service.
Learn more at Classic Cafes. Apparently it’s Grade II listed because the inspectors felt it has a:
‘Stylish shop front of custard Vitrolite panels, steel frame and lettering as well as a rich Deco-style marquetry panelled interior, altogether representing an architecturally strong and increasingly rare example of the intact and stylish Italian caf that flourished in London in the inter-war years.’
Blimey. Despite the all this though, we left a little bit disappointed though. Matt says last time he was there he saw Rhino from Gladiators, but he wasn’t there this time. Bah.
