Back in 2006 we noticed that hundreds of people were writing to Skype, and sharing their stories of how it had changed their lives. Some were big dramatic stories, some were charming little stories about everyday life.
We thought, what better way to promote Skype than to simply share these stories with people who might not have heard of Skype yet.
So we grabbed a camera, went on the road, and recorded them. Here, for example, is beatboxer Kid Lucky from Brooklyn…
Yes, these are the real people with their real stories. And no, we didn’t pay them anything (well, apart from some accessories we found lying around Skype’s offices).
These films and some photos we shot all feature on the Skype Stories website, and were also used across all Skype’s communications, from sharing emails, to packaging, to presspacks, and even TV adverts in the US. We like to create stuff that is useful in many different forms.
Here’s Lori and Keith who use Skype to keep in touch when they’re apart. “That’s my guy!”
And Jerald Downs, a Blueberry farmer from California who uses Skype to help run his business.
Thanks to David Hay and Matt Carter at Love films who did this for, well, love.
